Managing Director, Paul Briggs reflects on a successful first trip to Dubai
The Dubai market has been on our radar for some time now. The region suffers greatly from flash flooding and storms and there are many expensive properties that suffer. We have identified a gap in one specific area of the market and we feel that we are in great shape to offer a solution.
We enter the market with great confidence as following three years of research and development, we believe we are the first UK company to secure a British Standard Institute (BSI) PAS1188-1-2014 kitemark for both our composite and Upvc flood defence doors.
So, how did we become interested in Dubai?
We have a good working relationship with fellow South Tyneside business, UTS Group, specialists in pipeline products and services to the global water industry. It has an established base in Dubai and was extremely helpful by way of introducing us to personal contacts and shared its advice and experience of doing business in the region.
As one of the hottest and driest countries, Dubai may not seem like the obvious location for flood defence doors. However, the Emirate is subject to storms and flash floods which can cause extensive damage.
Shaun Sadler, managing director at UTS Group, kindly introduced us to a range of property developers, who took a great interest in our products. So much so, that we are now launching a showroom in the business quarter of Dubai and have recruited a business development manager.
I am flying back to Dubai in early September where our products will be ready to be put on show. I am positive that this will be the start of a successful career for the company in the Middle East and I am looking forward to meeting more potential clients and establishing a base for us out there.
